If you want to exercise and also want to become a self-sufficient badass chick, you might as well kill two birds with one stone. Instead of running on a treadmill or spinning, you can take a class that'll teach you how to defend yourself. That way, you'll be able to use your body to your advantage if you ever end up in a fight or get attacked by a stranger. Here are a few classes you can take that'll help you get fit while teaching you self-defense:

1. KICKBOXING CLASS

Kickboxing is an excellent way to burn calories and a great overall full-body workout where you'll sculpt your arms, back, and legs. What is it, exactly? Well, it's a group of stand-up combat sports based on kicking and punching. It's a very popular activity that your local gym will probably have some sort of cardio kickboxing classes for you to take that involves more bag work than partnering up. If you're looking for a more of a techniques class, check out an MMA gym. (Don't worry, it's not as intimidating as it might seem.)

2. BOXING

Even though official boxing requires you to wear gloves, the moves that you learn can help you out in real life. After all, it'll teach you the correct way to throw a punch. If you're ever in a dangerous situation, that knowledge will certainly come in handy.

3. BRAZILIAN JUI-JITSU

Think rolling around on the ground isn't a tough workout? Think again. You're defending yourself against someone else's body weight. It's tough. This is a martial art, combat sport, and a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. You never know when someone will catch you off-guard and throw you onto the ground. That's why these moves could come in handy.

4. KARATE

Karate is now predominantly a striking art using punching, kicking, knee strikes, elbow strikes and open hand techniques such as knife-hands, spear-hands, and palm-heel strikes. That means that, if you're ever in danger, you can use karate moves to attack your attacker.

5. TAEKWONDO

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art. If you sign up for a class, then you should expect to learn head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. Basically, your legs are going to get a great workout. So if you've been meaning to tone them, signing up for a Taekwondo class would be a great idea. If you want to get fit while learning self-defense, then you should think about signing up for a class to learn one of these skills. After all, it's better to be safe than to be sorry. You never know when the moves you learn will come in handy.

6. KRAV MAGA

If you want to know how to fight on the streets, then you should learn a few moves from Krav Maga. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and its extremely efficient and brutal counter-attacks. That means that it'll help you if you end up in a dangerous situation in real life. It'll teach you moves that you can rely on.

Do you know how to do any of these activities?
